  1. Amber means stop. You may go through an amber light if it would be dangerous not to (as in a car behind may crash into you if you braked very hard) but you would need to prove that. In any case the police will have photographic evidence so be careful. If you think that you are not being fairly treated ask them to let you see the photo's. To ignore the letter would only bring a higher penalty, you would NOT get away with it.

  2. Pay the bloody fine and slow down next time. Trying to run the lights will only get someone killed and more than likely it won't be you.

  3. i wouldnt ignore it if i was you, it wont go away. if anything the fine will get worse if you ignore it. if you are so sure that it was on amber, then appeal against it. if not, take the 3 points, pay the fine, and be more careful next time :)

  4. Read your Road Code/Regulations! What does an amber light signal?

As you use the term "quid", I presume you are a UK resident...

"(e) the amber signal shall, when shown alone, convey the same prohibition as the red signal, except that, as respects any vehicle which is so close to the stop line that it cannot safely be stopped without proceeding beyond the stop line, it shall convey the same indication as the green signal or green arrow signal which was shown immediately before it..."

"4. Amber— this warns traffic that it should stop unless it is unsafe to do so. In the UK it is legal to pass through an amber light, as the phase exists to warn drivers not yet at the junction that they will have to stop."

Do some research. An amber signal means the same world-wide!

The Officer that issued your ticket obviously believed you had ample time to stop.

If your tickets are similar to tickets issued in my corner of the world, you should have information regarding your rights, and penalties for non-payment. If not, make an effort to find out, or suffer the consequences!

  5. Never got a letter but have had friends that did this and they will either come for you you get you when you go to renew your drivers license, which will much harder at that time....
