I went to a dealership and don't know which car to get, help me choose!!?

Question

I recently went to this dealership and this guy is a dealer who you know won't bullshit you. I am stuck between a 1999 chevy malibu or the 2001 oldsmobile intrigue. The malibu has a scratch on the hood and would need touched up for an extra $200. It has a sunroof with 93k miles. It doesn't run as smooth as the oldsmobile (I took it for a test drive.) The malibu has a cd/cassette player and so does the oldsmobile. The malibu has stickers on the back that can't come off like University stickers. Also the control panel for the switches like windows is loose but can be fixed. The malibu's glove box handle is alittle loose but can be fixed as well. The oldsmobile is alittle bigger, has no sunroof with 109k miles and has a cd/cassette player. Also the gas thing is on the drivers side. I heard malibus gas thing tends to rust. The oldsmobile has a keyless entry, its a/c just needs recharged. I really like BOTH! I'm probably getting the intrigue but which one do you guys think I should get?

I own an auto repair shop. So please, take my advice seriously. Take both of these vehicles to a trusted auto repair shop, and have them thoroughly inspected. From your description of them, they're both junk. Chevy Malibu's are not the best cars out there. Neither are the Olds Intrigue. If the Malibu has a 3.1 motor, the intake gaskets leak. The Intrigues have a 3.5 motor...not the best either. The only way to make a determination on which vehicle to buy is to have a trusted, well known shop inspect them both. Don't make a big investment such as a vehicle, until you do.

well, i don't know how much money you are spending, but it sounds like ther are both pretty worn out and beat up. i think you should get a new honda accord or c-rv. they are both good cars. :D but if you know you are getting either the malibu or oldsmobile, get the oldsmobile. it is bigger, drives smoother, has a cd player, does not have stickers, also, sun roofs cost a lot to fix, so its good there isn't one. i hope i helped at least a little bit! good luck with buying a car! :D

You can do better than either, honestly. Neither car has very good reliability ratings or gas mileage, two things that you need or you'll be dumping a lot of money into your vehicle the next few years. That said, I'd take the Malibu if you must pick between these two, if only because it has less miles.

Get the Olds, it sounds like it's in better shape. Both made by GM. I'd walk past them both and get a Ford Mustang, if it were me.

Well, I was going to say "Go to another dealer," as they stuff you list SHOULD be fixed before it's sold. However, since you like them, I'm with the Malibu - less miles, sun roof ... see if you can get them to fix the hood scratch for $0 if you buy it, and I bet they can get those University stickers off, too. They are HUNGRY for a sale. Make them work. Get the Chevy!!!

I had a 1999 Malibu and I loved that car.  I guess it would depend on how much work you want to do on the car.  There should be a way to remove those stickers from the car though.  Go with your gut instinct.  If you think one is in better shape ( not cosmetically ) than the other I would go for that one.  You don't want to have to put a lot of money to keep the vehicle on the road.  Good Luck!!  :)

i would choose the intrigue because it would last longer and has good gas mileage. I think you would be better off with the intrigue

i would get the oldsmobile because its in better condition and i would't get the chevy malibu because you would have to fix it up and spend extra money that you dont need to spend.
