I needed to get a pap smear?

for cheap as I don't have any money so I called around. I got a doc who said they charge 50-130.00 for one. I get there, do the pap and pay 90.00. I get home they call me-tell me I have an std(tell me my husband has cheated on me) and tell me to go get medicine. I go get it. The next day they call me back and tell me I dont have the std-just bacterial vaginosis which is just a yeast infection. I go get the medicine for that. I call and request a refuind for the first medicine They send it=it takes 3 weeks.

Yesterday I receive a bill saying I owe 130.00 to them. I call and he tells me I owe it for lab work. I said you told me the whole pap was between 50-130 not (130 plus 90=220) 220.00! He says well pay it or it goes to collections.

I am crying right now because I am so mad. I dont have any money but I dont qualify for medicaid. I cant pay this and I feel they are in the wrong. please help

UPDATE** I called and told them I would pay 10.00 a month.

  1. I have no credit, so what I would do is let it get sent to collections and they will set up a payment plan on it. And explain to them your problem and they could get your bill lowered. Good luck =)

  2. Do they have a billing department? Or is this a small town doctor? You shouldn't have to pay for anything they misdiagnosed you on. I don't understand...they actually told you that you're husband cheated on you?!

You can make a formal complaint against your doctor. I don't know if it will make a difference in what you owe them but the fact that they misdiagnosed you is not good practice.

How to File a Complaint Against Your Doctor

Each State Has Its Own Filing Requirements

Doctors are registered in the individual state in which they practice. The Board of Medicine or Board of Registration in Medicine governs the conduct of the doctors practicing in a particular state.

The actual name of the Board will vary from state to state. If you want to file a complaint against a doctor within a state, you will will have to contact the Board of Medicine to see what their individual procedures are regarding filing a grievance of this type. Usually, the Board will have a website which the general public can access to determine what steps they need to take in order to get the ball rolling.

  3. honestly you should look for free clinics that work on a donation and not for a fee. you dont need medicaid to go to a free womans clinic.

  4. you should do this stuff at a women's clinic, they are usually free or very low cost, even for meds(about $10) you can contact planned parenthood to get the info.

  5. It should not take 4 months to pay $130.00.  If you pay $10 a week it will take 13 weeks.  4 months = 16 weeks.  What is the problem here?

  6. That is terrible...pay them when you can ...sounds like a shoddy run place..

    all the best to you
