It was the perfect job for me.... $15.00 an hour... being an assistant editor with a chance to make extra money working on side projects, and even have the opportunity to move on up to become a full-time graphic artist and make over $20.00 an hour, great location and they have HEALTH INSURANCE.

After waiting for a month to hear back from these people, I called them up this morning and they told me that the position is filled. before I could hang up I threw the phone against the wall and started crying. The perfect job.... GONE. Just like that.... Just when I was starting to feel better about myself, this ******* happens. This is a sign... a giant Las Vegas-esk sign saying "DANNIMON WILL NEVER BE HAPPY"

I just dont know.... i keep trying to look for work and get interviews but I get nothing. Its like these people are wasting my time. I honestly think I'm blacklisted in this industry, that every Graphic Design Company and Television studio is trying to prevent me from getting a job. I tried redesigning my website, I tried rewriting my resume, I even lost weight. I cant seem to figure out why I cant find a job yet and still I have friends who are in the same field were able to find work without any effort. What should I do?

  1. Other people have offered very good suggestions but one thing I would recommend is to continue working on your portfolio by doing free lance work through a site like Elance or volunteer work.

In addition you should continue to hone your skills in web development by learning some development apps like Adobe Flex and Air.  There is a huge demand right now for developers in those  languages.  You can download a trial version of Flex Builder and there is a great tutorial series which I will include in the references.  BTW, flex jobs usually average around 30-40 per hour.

Best of luck.  I've been there.

  2. There are agencies out there that can help you.  They will help you because it is financially worth their while, they get paid by the employers to find good help.

Seek out one of these agencies, and really brush up on your interview skills.

Another thing you can do is go on a free classified site and post a  Work Wanted ad. If you receive a call from some employer, check them out thoroughly, because like anything else there are scammers

    just waiting for their prey.

    Good luck

  3. this website is FREE, you just have to prove your over 18, they give you $150 check for free just by signing up, and then you get $10 for every email you read for 2 minutes each. I make about $350 and more a day its an AWSOME website!! try it you wont regret it.

  4. the problem is that many people cannot get a job and have to step down to lower jobs, to pay bills.  For example take my case. I graduated in May 2008 with bachelor of science in math but failed to find any job which requires BS in math.

However at the same time, I can get any $15 an hour job I want and several employers within that pay range are willing to hire me. So that is what I will be likely forced to do because I have to pay my own bills.

If i do that, then someone like you does not get hired for $15 an hour.

And the jobs that require BS in math, is being applied by MS in math, because phd in math is applying for MS in math.  Everything is a mess.

All of this gets triggered by an experienced professional applying for entry level jobs because of bad economy. And even though the job's description states entry level, they still hire experienced professional because he applied for it.  This is the number 1 reason why so many recent college graduates cannot find work.

Nobody is able to find the job, which suits their qualifications and are forced to do jobs that are less than their standards. When that happens somebody will be pushed down all the way to getting minimum wage only.

  5. You shouldn't wait a month to call back.  Wait like a week to call.  This will let them know that you are really really interested and/or you really need the job.  Anyway, the job market is total **** right now.  Everyone is outsourcing to China and India so they can pay these people $0.50/hr.  Capitalism sucks.  The guy I'm renting a room from is having such a hard time finding a job as well, and his resume is through the roof.  So don't feel inadequate because you can't find a job, the unemployment rate is soooo high right now and it's just this horrible economy.

  6. The very first thing you need to do is resist the temptation to remain discouraged. It's okay to let yourself feel this minor ouch, however, you must make a decision not to stay there.

The field you are in is challenging. Simply keeping up with the rapid demands of graphic design technology is enough to make any reasonable girl's head spin. Knowing this needs to be part of your arsenal. Try your best to at least become acquainted with the hottest trends in the business and with current computer applications.

Next - you may need to arm yourself with a change in appearance, the way you interview, and the job industry climate in your personal location. My advice to you is to either go to the library or your local bookstore; start perusing job interview books. Pay attention to dress code suggestions, what they say about body language, how you talk, etc. Many of these books have blantantly clear titles that will help you (i.e. 301 Smart Answers to Tough Interview Questions, Acing the Interview). Finally, make sure you know your company. Sometimes, you don't have to have all the knowledge up front. Someone might be impressed with what you know about the organization you are trying to get in.

Don't give up. It's a nasty economy right now. Many people are suffering.

You are needed somewhere (that will be worth your while). Just persevere and never say die.

  7. Take a look at this site.  It's amazing! http://www.earnincomenow.com/kimer

  8. I doubt that you went on a hundred interviews. prior to an interview learn about the company.Do research so that when its interview time you are prepared. Dress properly and act confident but not arrogant.

  9. First of all take a deep breath.  I know this is frustrating but don't throw your hands up and breakdown just yet.  You have to apply for lots of different positions when looking for work you can't just sit and wait for one company to call you back go out there and apply aggresively.

Check on every job website including craigslist and look all over the area even if it means your commute is a little bit longer.  Check with advertising agencies, architects, interior design firms, all these industries need graphic designers.  Also try employment agencies you'll be surprised the kind of positions they have available you'll be in a temporary basis for about 3 months but if it works out for you and them you'll be hired as a permanent employee its like you get to try out the job before you sign up long term.

Finally don't lose your confidence because that is what's gonna get you hired.  Remember how qualified you are and what a great contribution to the company you'll be.
