The clerk refused service because he said "They have a $5.00 minimum" they get charged the same amount of money when they do a transaction with a debit card, so for them to make money they require you to spend at least $5.00, IS THAT SH*T LEGALy PERMITED BY LAW?

  1. Yes, it is.

  2. you should have ordered more beer if using a card i usually buy a case at a time and use cash.

  3. Not quite sure about the minimum $5.00.

Is that cash or credit card?

It is against the merchant agreement with Visa and Mastercard for a merchant to have a minimum purchase amount or charge an additional fee to use your credit card. Some debit/ATM networks allow this but not all.

You could make a complaint to either Mastercard or Visa if it had to do with a credit card.

There are fees the store have to pay. It is generally a fixed amount, say  20 or 25 cents, plus a percentage of the sale. many store owners feel that it is not worth paying the credit card fees on small dollar amount transactions.

It really comes down to two things. Either complain to Mastercard or Visa or stop going to the store at all.

  4. Nope, it's a violation of Visa's bylaws.

  5. Yep.......use cash to buy beer..........or.........buy more beer.........

  6. Oh yea, luquer stores can do that.

The fact that your upset about it over a couple of beers should tell you something though...GET HELP.

AA is free and you don't even need to make an appointment.
