I went wedding dress shopping and hated it! Is it OK to find any colour of formal dress that looks nice on me?

My mother and future mother-in-law are sure to be appalled at the thought of my wearing anything but white, but I don't think white looks good on me (I have dark skin).

  1. you don't think white looks good on your dark skin? wow, that usually looks FABULOUS! Nevertheless, you could try pale pink, champagn, ivory, pale yellow, or even baby blue. Happy Marriage!

  2. its ur wedding u should be able to have what ever color u want for a dress if u dont wont white then get another color

  3. I hated gown shopping also. it sucked! i hated everything and nothing looked good. I kept going with me mom and sister just to make them happy. One day as i was throwing a fit cause after 8 hours of trying on wedding dresses you get a little crazy.. i put the LAST one on.. and was convinced that i was doing a very INFORMAL wedding (Jeans and sweat shirt) and BAM it hit me. i found my dress!

    git it some time. try different colors on. try a gold dress i bet that would look nice

  4. You might find that an off white works for you.

    Go back without anyone else and just try on what the staff suggest. They are experts.

  5. white didnt look good on me either, so i went with an ivory dress. try some on, you will see the difference.

  6. It's your wedding and you can do what you want to do. That's too bad that your mom and future MIL are so judgmental and traditional. You should love and feel comfortable in your dress. My mom wore a brown wedding dress. It was the 60s. I went with white but I had lilac colored beading on the bodice. I love my dress. My mom called it a fancy nightgown. My MIL said that she normally doesn't like strapless gowns but she liked mine. It is what it is. They will react how they will react. Make yourself happy. You will feel confident and it's your day. I think this is one area of the wedding at least that it's all about you and what you want. They will have to get over it. C'est la vie.

  7. Not traditional weddings seem to be more popular now.

    as for traditional styles they may not all be pear white but for darker skin

        *  Diamond White

        * Stark White

        * Ivory

        * Eggshell

        * Candlelight

        * Champagne

        * Rum

        * Cream

        * Maize

        * Blush

        * Whisper

        * Rose

    those are the colors that will look the best with your skintone

  8. You can absolutely wear whatever color you choose on your wedding day. Your mom and mother-in-law will get over it.

  9. it is your wedding, so you want to do what makes you feel gorgeous.

    did you look at the other color offerings?  a lot of dresses come in champagne, dusty rose, golds, creams, etc.

    you could also do a champagne or cream with a colored sash.

    these are just a few ideas.  but if you really want a certain color dress, then explain it to the moms, and find something that makes you feel beautiful!

    good luck!

  10. White isn't a great color for everyone. I personally chose a cream colored gown, but I wanted a red one. If you don't like white, but don't want to offend, you might try a light-colored pastel. Pale gold looks great on dark skin, or a pink or frost green. It's your wedding and these are the pictures you will have to look at for the rest of your life, do what makes YOU happy!

  11. Oh i would be so excited to go dress shopping! Have you thought about ivory, creme or gold (the wedding gold). I think you should do what you like, it is your wedding after all.

    Good luck xoxo

  12. its your wedding, not theirs. its really important that you feel fantastic on the day regardless of what others feel you should be wearing. white does not suit everyone, so ignore them. don't feel that you have to adapt to their requests otherwise in the future you may feel bitter about feeling forced into the decision.

    it is absolutely o.k to wear what dress or colour you want , even your birthday suit if thats what you feel good in. this is one day when its all about you, so enjoy it.

  13. you can go to online shop check that.they have lots of dresses,also custom-made,you can check that.

  14. It doesn't have to be white. Try a nice Ivory or Beige Colored Wedding Dress. These days they come in all colors, here are a few examples. They would match really well if you have darker skin.

    And don't worry about their "dissaproval" because it's your body, and your wedding, and you certainly don't want it to be something you wouldn't want to wear. Wedding dresses are expensive enough without having you hate it. So get what you like. :)
