  1. Check out a place like newegg or tigerdirect.

$600 will definately get you a workable machine.

Stick with a good mobo like Abit, Asus, or Gigabyte that you've researched on the web and you're halfway there.

  2. Okey, here are some tips if you want to buy 1 by 1.

    motherboard - http://www.motherboardpro.com/

    Memory - http://www.memory4less.com/

    CPU - http://www.geeks.com/products.asp?cat=CP...

    CRT Monitor - http://computers.pricegrabber.com/crt-mo...

    Computer Case - http://www.xoxide.com/allcases.html

    keyboard and mouse(wireless) - http://www.directron.com/kemocombos.html

    DVDROM-http://computers.pricegrabber.com/dvd-ro...

These are the most important things you need to buy when you build a computer of your own. Just be sure that when you buy each computer hardware, be sure that they are compatible. What I've given to you is just the hardware. You still need OS like Windows XP so that you can use your computer.

    good luck!
