I'm thinking to purchase one of this boat, but I have been told this brand had some issues and resale value is very low, therefore I need some help from individual owners or from people who has knowledge about boating.It looks like a great boat for the price.

Thanking in advance to all those individuals who can help me to make the right decision.

  1. Oh my god the guy before me is living in the 80's.  Here is the real scoop.   In late 1990, early 1991, Bayliner was purchased by brunswick marine.  Before this I agree they were not the greatest boat.  Once Brunswick purchased them they brought over the Sea Ray engineers to bring them up to speed.  Today Bayliner, Maxum, and Sea Ray are built in the same plants.  Even more, Brunswick makes 90% of the parts "in-house" So the same parts that you find on Baja, Boston Whaller, Maxum, Trophy, etc are used on all.  Not only that but Brunswick also owns Mercury Marine.

    When it comes to re-sale look at it this way......ALL BOATS loose the same each year.  I don't care what anyone says.  If you don't agree then look at it this way EVERYONE has heard of Bayliner.  So that first time boat buyer is going to reconize that name over say Mariah.  But let me get back on track.........if you loose 20% the first year and 15% the next and so on here is what you get......

    Bayliner=    $60,000

    Four Winns=    $100,000

    After the first year you lost $12,000 with the Bayliner

    After the first year you lost $20,000 with the Four Winns

    Once again Bayliner might not have all the "eye candy" a Four Winns has, but you have just as much fun and you didn't p**s your money away

    That 246 Discovery is a sweet boat for both fishing and cruising.  My brother bought one in Michigan for a great price off of ebay and LOVES it.   That's how I know so much about Bayliner and the boat, we did our research for almost 2 years and I have been a boater for 28 years.

  2. Bayliner built an ENTRY level quality boat,that was generally under powered,and constructed as cheaply as possible.They always looked good in the show room,but most owners quickly found out that( you get what you paid for).There for the craft has very little resale or trade in value.I would suggest that you have a qualified Tec. inspect the craft,then you can decide if this boat is right for you.
