  1. tiffers2's answer is on the mark, but also depending on her age, she will have some ways of communicating in some way or another. U should ask her parents whether she uses any sign language or particular sounds for things. My son with down syndrome is 3 and uses some signs, some words and other sounds and movements for particular words or things, and if u know what they r u can have a conversation with him, or at least know what he wants.

Good luck, and u may find her to b one of the loveliest kids ul ever meet.

  2. You need to speak to her parent or caretaker on her specific needs. Children with disabilities can be challenging especially if they lack communication skills. Also downs syndrome is not a degenerative disorder so her condition will not be advanced in anyway.

sorry if this sound mean but I feel think that caring for children with special needs should be done by a qualified professional and not by a person earning pocket money.

  3. My aunt is mentally handicapped.  They have the brains of a child, so it would be like babysitting a child (if she is older).  Games, puzzles things like that is a great thing to have.  If shes going to be at your house ask her parents to bring a few of her fave. games, books (coloring books) or even movies.  See if she has a fave tv show or movie that you can watch with her.  They are normal people, nothing to be afraid of.  Just make sure you know about her diet to make sure she has no allergies.  And just have fun playing games.

  4. How old is she? Every child is different. But it should be similar to most children you babysit. Her parents will be able to provide you with any instructions or infomation specific to her. Like favorite toy, song, blanket,  etc. A Child with Downs Syndrome is just like any other child, you will be fine.
