  2. I have never heard of a 16 year old buying a car .

    plenty of money helps

  3. I guess you should also check insurance quotes for the car before buying one, for example here: http://carquotes.fateback.com

Young drivers usually have much higher rates than others. And it depends from car.

  4. You meet seller.  Hopefully not in a dark alley.  You hand over the cash or cashiers check and he hands over his title to you.  Make sure the title matches the car exactly, especially the VIN number you can find on the dashboard.  Also, make sure he filled out the proper section on the title that will allow it to transfer to you.  Then you sign the title and hand write on your info.

Take title to your state DMV office and hand them the title.  They will process it and usually mail you a new title with your information printed on it.  While you're at the DMV you'll need to register for license plates, etc. That kinda differs in each state so just ask the clerk while you're there.

In some states the license plate stays with the car, and in other states it stays with the person... when in doubt, go to the DMV and ask prior to the sale.

  5. check the Vin number on the title

make sure it matches the Vin number on the car

------ this is the plate in the drivers side of the windshield

most states need you to have an inspection

and most need you to have auto insurance

------ some can get you a temp- plate for @30 days

check with your dept of motor vehicle

or some gas stations do state inspections

------ there stations may be able to tow your car there.

  6. you get the titles from the person selling it. you have to go to an insurance agency and buy your policy from them. I use state farm because they have a bunch of discounts for student drivers.     good luck!
