Doesn't matter where you get your money exchanged you are going to be ripped off, that's why Jesus threw the money lenders out of the Temple.  What you have to decide is the amount that you are willing to be ripped off by.

Your best bet would be the Canadian chartered Banks they should have the best rates, I would think that the American banks would really shred you up on the exchange.  Next maybe the trust companies and lastly the currency exchanges booths at the airport or Ontario tourist offices.

Some merchants will give you par but others won't because they are being ripped off by their banks so they just pass it on.

There are A.T.M.s all over the city so you will not have to worry about carrying a lot of cash with you.

Avoid the exchange houses all over downtown--They should be wearing masks

Banks here use current rates of exchange. Stores may not be as fair exchanging your money.

Chartered banks will give you the correct rate.  Avoid changing in shops or a commercial money exchange they would be more inclined to cheat you.
