I have applied for a visitor visa and immigration officer asked for more information, since I submitted all the required information, he emailed me back said " I have recieved the documents and will begin to process the application further. I will be in contact shortly) its been a week i didnt get any response from him, if he says I WILL BE IN COTACT SHORTLY, how long does that mean?

Sunshine is right? He can' d anything to your paper just cause  you ask. All he can do is.........do i t fast to get you out of his face.

Shortly can mean one day or one month, unfortunately. Someone who does their job and is considerate would consider "shortly" to mean a few days. People who just want to write "shortly" to get you off their back while they take forever to get their job done will consider shortly to be anywhere from a week to a month. My suggestion, if you haven't heard back after two full business weeks (14 days), email back politely and ask for an update.
