This is a birthday surprise for me from my husband. I have loved horses since I can remember & always dreamed of owning & caring for one (or more). I used to clean stalls at 10 yrs old for free just to be with them. I have moderate/good "lingo" knowledge & riding skills. I am very comfortable around them & feel a deep connection with horses. This being my first horse ownership (?) experience, I want to make sure I do it right. I would appreciate any tips or advice that may help me.

  1. don't be nervous when your around the horse because the horse will sence it and probably take advantage of you.

  2. respect the horse and get a good bond with him. the stronger the bond the better the relationship, that is what i have found with my gelding, also listen to what the horse is telling you. It is very rare for horses to act up from naughty-ness, if he plays up he could be scared, so listen to him, horses only have a few ways of telling us that something is wrong, For a good relationship try Monty Roberts or Kelly Marks! Good Luck and enjoy it!
