I currently live in Florida, but will be moving to NY to attend college. I am looking for a GOOD daycare or pre-school for my 4 year old son for this fall. He will be in Pre-K. Does anyone happen to know of a good school in the Queens or Long Island area? Please let me know!! Thanks!

  2. If you go to naccrra.org they will give you a list of Child Care Resource and Referral Agencies in the county or borough where you live. Those agencies can help you. Also, some school districts have free Pre-K programs. Call the one where you will be living. Many colleges have on-site day care, often with sliding fee schedules, and they are usually pretty good.

  3. Check with the elementary school in your new area, and also social service agencies and churches.  They will probably be able to recommend some programs or give you a few to check out.  Schools and churches often have their own programs, and may know of others in the area.  Once you have your list, visit these programs and ask lots of questions.  Find out what sort of licensing they have and what kind of credentials their staff have.  Ask what their curriculum is and what schedule the children follow.  Ask what their discipline policy is.  Try to observe a class in progress.  Once you have selected a program, be sure to volunteer a little time in the classroom so you can see exactly what your child is experiencing.  A child benefits most from education when the parent is involved!
