I realised that I can't get Carte Orange because I arrive on Thrusday and I leave on Monday...so my other options are Paris Visite or Paris Pass and I don't find them quite cheap, but which one would be better? I would like to know a parisian's opinion...or if there's any other solution.

  1. Paris offers one of the greatest underground networks of public transportation. Click here ( link naar www.ratp.info ) for the website of the metro-network. The metro (subway) runs daily from 5:30am-12:30am. Transportation maps are available at subway stations. Tickets can be purchased singly or in books of 10. They are available at the stations and from tobacconists and must be validated before boarding.

The train system is also very impressive, and will get you quickly to most places in France. There are 6 main train stations in Paris: Gare Saint-Lazare at 108 Saint-Lazare -8th arrondissement, Gare Montparnasse at Place R. Dautry -15th arrondissement, Gare de Lyon at 20 Boulevard Diderot -12th arrondissement, and the biggest ones La Gare du Nord at Place du 8 Mai 1945 -10th arrondissement, and Gare de l'Est at Place Napoleon III -10th arrondissement.

The buses are fine for travelling between Paris and other countries, but in France itself they're not so popular.

  2. Both of the othere answers are very accurate,... take their advise I would say the same,.. I love Paris,. been there  A LOt and I have wasted $$ on Metro (security-I thought I needed it) NOT! U can walk just about every where. Take the RER into the city and buy as you go,..HAve Fun!! Avoir

  3. It depends on how often you think you will be using public transit.

You can buy a one day pass called a Mobilis which costs 5.60 euros for zones 1-2.

If you buy tickets by the "carnet" (ten tickets at a time) the price per ticket is 1.11 euros.

So if you will be using public transport more than five times in a day you would do better buying a mobilis. otherwise, just using tickets from your "carnet" is more economical.

    NB:

    1) The Mobilis one day pass is not mentioned on the English language version of the RATP site. They prefer tourists buy the Paris Visite which is simply not as good a deal.

    2) Buy the ten tickets by saying  "Carnet s'il vous plait." If you ask for "dix billets" (ten tickets) you can never be sure some officious ticket seller won't sell you ten tickets at the single ticket price times ten.

  4. Hi there,

When we stayed in Paris we spent 11.10 Euro for 10 standard metro tickets.

The tickets don't have any expiry date - you just use them whenever you need. They allow you to use the metro (take however many trains you need to get to your destination) until you exit at the other end (all in Zone 1 - the city zone). Once you exit a train station, the ticket can't be used any more.

If you plan your day wisely, you may be able to get away with just using two tickets a day (getting there, getting back). So if you have 5 days, 10 tickets might be ok. If you run out, you can just buy extra ones for 1.50 Euro each. (they are only 1.10 each if you buy them in ten's)

Don't forget that Paris is a very easy city to walk around, so you don't have to use the metro all the time!

You can buy them from ticket machines (with a credit card, or with coins), or from ticket counters.

"Dix billets s'il vous plait" is what you say at the ticket counter!

    Cheers!
