I know that February is the dry season for most of CR. Here in the states El Nino has been wreaking havoc on the weather this year. Has it also impacted normal weather patterns in Costa Rica?

  1. Costa Rica has so many climates that a visitor can be surprised by the need for changes of clothing.Summer starts in December and ends around May. Summer is dry, and rain comes rarely. As I write this in January, 2004, San Jose has not had more than a few minutes of rain since 3 days before Christmas. Other parts of the country have had more rain however... especially the mountain areas. Winter is the rainy season.in San Jose, we expect clouds by Noon and rain around 1 O'clock each day. That still leaves maybe 7 hours of sun each morning, so the rain is not unpleasant at all. It is no accident, therefore, that hotels rates rise in December and fall in June. Another interesting note: The kids in CR enjoy their Summer vacation during December - February.  Needless to say, this is also called the High Season, and hotel rates and many other prices are higher during this period.

  2. how dare you leave us for yet another excursion on your quest to introduce free market economics to every third world nation.  i presume the weather will be poor, with a 30% chance of institutional instability.

  3. I was in Costa Rica in October of 06. This is supposed to be the heaviest month of the "rainy season" and the weather was beautiful. Rained about an hour, not even a day, and the rest of the time was beautiful. A few of the locals told me that it seemed like summer to them. Not sure how that is going to help you in February, but yeah, I was told the weather was not "normal" when I was there.

  4. the weather be too bad and the will be subtropical and the will be ok and it is not going to be that chilly

  5. Actually, it depends where in Costa Rica you are going as to how much rain you will see.  Here in the Zona Sur,  we been having an hour or so of rain 4-5 times a week.  Just enough to  cool it off and keep it green.  Enjoy your trip.  If you make down my way stop in Latitude 8 for a cold one,  I'll buy.

  6. well atleast you won't have snow impacted up your as$
