  1. I was face with the same problem.  The answer depends of a few things. First how long before the trip if you have a few months you can do both if a few weeks go for the French unless you know Spanish.  The reason French first is the French are difficult and prefer not to communicate in English were the Italians will when possible.  Also remember a huge part of the English language uses words of French origin and this can make things easier.  There are some great resources on line just type in learn French or speak French.   Now if you have Spanish in you back ground learning Italian isn't hard at all. There are many cross over words and through your life you have heard many of the Italian words without knowing. IT what I did was learn French first then a month before leaving I started on the Italian it worked fine.  Just do yourself the favor or listening and reading each language as often as possible.  Go online and fined streaming movies, music, and Tv this helps alot once you learn the basic.  Good Luck Good Travel

  3. you should probably learn italian because its much easier than french i think.

I have studied both in school so i would prefer italian because its a nice flowy language unlike french. but both are very helpful since i had already learned french italian was easy but i dont know if it will be easy for you and plus i have been living in italy for 4 years. so there you go good luck and have fun
