I will be travelling from mumbai to chicago to nashville,i am indian having a tourist visa for the us.?

all the flight reservations are done.i.e.mumbai to chicago-by air india(o'hare international airport) and from there chicago to nashville by american airlines.can u pl. guide me when i get off on O'hare airport,what wil be the formalities and how will i go to another terminal from where i have to board my flight to nashville? and if air india flight is delayed and if i miss my connecting flight can i get the refund for my ticket or will the domestic airline give me seat on the next available flight? where do i pass time in such a eventuality?

DUDE!, AIR INDIA WILL NOT PAY IF YOUR FLIGHT IS LATE. ITS THE MOST HORRIBLE AIRLINES. WHY DID U CHOSE IT ! I WONDER !!!

Your entry will be smooth so no problem there. But only try and give yourself more time to catch the connectinf flight out of Chicago. At least 5 hrs to be on the safe side. You will not be bored at the airport.

You'll arrive at the international terminal at O'Hare and go through customs.

From there it's just a matter of finding out where your connecting flight departs from.  There's screens all around showing the flights and what terminal/gate they depart from.

If your Air India flight is delayed and you miss your flight you'll want to go to the American Airlines desk and talk to them about getting you on a later flight.  I don't know if you'll get a refund or not (probably not), but you'll need to review your contract with the respective airlines to find out how it's handled.

There's lots of shops and restaurants to pass the time if you have to wait.

Check the Chicago O'Hare Airport website and download and print map so when you get to the airport and you find out your terminal and gate number you'll know where to go.

The customs immigration officer at Chicago O'Hare will ask you for your passport, why your asking entry to the US, they will stick the visa stamp on your passport. Ask what terminal and what gate you need to go to. I don't know what they do with your luggage in your case so ask if your luggage was transferred to your next plane. You can also check on the huge screens all over the place. Look at your ticket, it has the airline (American Airlines) flight number and time of departure. The screen will tell you the terminal (airport area), and boarding gate. There's huge gate numbers at every gate, so they are easy to see.

They normally do not refund money because it's not their fault you missed the flight. So they TRY to get you another flight schedule. if that happens you can just walk around, but be at the gate, could be the same or a new one at least half hour early, because they may give your seat to someone else. If its going to be hours find a seat and sleep.

Dude you seem so worried about all of this. its very easy and simple. There are no formalities at the airport. The immigration officer will ask ou for how many days are you gonna be in US . You answer and you enter the airport. There are huge signs about where you will find ur connecting flights. There are many monitors at the airport where you can find from which terminal your connecting light will leave. Incase you mis your connecting flight, go to your american airlines counter they will schedule you a next leaving flight and will not charge you anything.

There are lounges or even food courts. I usually walk up and down doing absolutely nothing :)
