  1. The Cubans will NOT accept any thing American or remotely american. Take as much cash as you can an convert it when you get there. VISA, American Express, Diners Club are NOT accepted anywhere in Cuba.

  2. No, do not take US dollars, take either Sterling or Euros, you can change either of those for Cuban Pesos at you hotel.

  3. The currencies currently accepted in Cuba are:

    --Cuban Convertible Peso

    --Cuban Peso

--Euro (only acepted in varadero and by some casa owners as payment for the rooms)

Credit Cards: MasterCard, Visa, Access, Diners, and Carnet are acceptable in most places. No US credit cards are accepted. Visa card issued in the USA will not be accepted. American Express, no matter where issued, is unacceptable. You can obtain cash advances with a credit card at branches of the Banco Financiero Internacional and several other banks, but it is best to bring plenty of cash as there will often be no other way of paying for what you need. Thomas Cook or Visa Traveler’s checks are acceptable.

  4. Definitely not U. S. dollars in fact anything but. There is a penalty for changing anything U. S ,travellers checks, cash or what have you. Take Canadian, Euros,  or Sterling.  At the airport upon arrival or at your  resort  you can change your funds into Convertible Pesos the currency used by tourists. CUC have no value outside Cuba so when you are returning home you can change what you have left back into  your home currency or save them for your next trip.  You won't be able to change them once you are home.  Check the site below for the approximate exchange rate.  enjoy your visit,  Cuba is wonderful

  5. It is best to take CAD or Euros (and non-US credit cards). If you do take US funds, they will charge you a fee for money exchange. American Travellers Cheques and American credit cards are not accepted.

You can only change your money at the airport or the resort to CUC (Cuban convertible for tourists....CUP for Cuban citizens only). Depending where you are staying in Cuba, you may also be able to go to a local bank. But that's not always easily feasible.

Change only what you need a bit at a time so you don't lose when you change back before coming home. You can't use CUC outside of Cuba and won't be able to change them back home either.

Also, a side tip, if you do happen to use CAD or Euros as a tip (such as when you land, want to tip for baggage/bus ride, at resort for baggage help and don't have any pesos on you yet), they can't accept coins because they can't do anything with them...eg...loonies and toonies. But they can accept bills.

Have a great time in Cuba!

  6. i am booked to go next year to get married and have done my homework on it. take your local money and change it there as you will get charged for taking other in. the local money chasnges up to the same amount as us dollers so iv read. have good time.

  7. If you take US dollars you will have absolutely no problem exchanging them when you get there.  The same is true if you take Canadian dollars or Euros.  When in Cuba I understand you can now spend only Cuban currency.  When  I was there about 3 years ago we spent US dollars many places we went - no problem.
