While I'll only have one afternoon, evening and morning to myself, I'd like to pack in as much tourist-y stuff possible. I head Chicago-style pizza is fantastic, as is Chicago hotdogs.... And I'd love to experience the "Chicago Sound" - I'm picturing a late dinner with live musical entertainment. What do you all suggest I do? Where should I go? Where and what should I eat? Be specific, please! Thanks!!

  1. make sure you get a Italian beef sandwich they are to die for.And yes there pizza is very very good. It has been to long since Ive down town Chicago so I don't remember the names. Ask one of the bell hops they'll know the pizza place has been there for generations.

  2. eat at Mike Ditkas..

  3. Chicago House of Blues

  4. if i were you i would go to a cubs game (if they are in town). Wrigleyville is simply awesome. All the bars, all the women, everything about it is great. not to far from downtown!

many tourists come to chicago just to check out the cubs and wrigleyville!

wait u said early october? cubs will be in the playoffs (hopefully). go to wrigleyville itll be packed and youll have a blast!

  5. if you can get to a portillo's hot dog restaurant for a hot dog and or italian beef you won't regret it!

chicago is also known for its amazing steak houses...  the chicago chop is house is great, as is ruth's chris.

there is a giordano's not far from the omni hotel-they have great pizza!

as far as music goes, i would check out the house of blues, they have them all over the country, but the best of them is in chicago-i'm not biased, its true!

as far as other touristy things you could do-there are architecture cruises on the river, the art institute is not far from your hotel, the planetarium has the best view of the city, as well as the oceanarium and the field museum.  state street is great to people watch and walk around.  there is also seg-way tours in millenium park.  my mother in law took one last weekend, and she said it was the best $50 she has ever spent in the city!  it was like 4 hours long and you just tour the city with a guide on the segways.  it could be fun.

    hope you enjoy yourself!
