  1. That really depends on the child.  Some kids that age love old ruins, and others will be whiny and bored silly.  I'd say to take the tour, but be sure to bring a few distractions (a handheld game, iPod, a few comics) in case she starts getting impatient.

And don't forget the sunscreen, water, and a big floppy hat!

  2. I completely agree with mgmdude. I would also advise you to bring hats, umbrellas and plenty of sunscreen lotion. The sun can be dangerous for delicate skins, don't underestimate this fact.

  3. If you go down to the ruins in Tulum, take your swim gear. You will have beach access which can provide a break for your child. Also, you can save a few bucks. Don't book the tour with the ship. When you arrive via the ferry in Playa del Carmen, you can either take a combi or bus to Tulum. Both are near the dock and leave PDC frequently. The site in Tulum is a minor site as far as ruins are concerned and it won't take long to see the place. Tulum is popular because it is on the coast. Take water as it will be hot and yes, there is a store on the site. Have fun down there.

  4. I would say yes!!!

I was miserable when my husband and I went to the ruins.  It is a lot of walking which I usually don't mind.  However, there was no air flow and you were in a jungle covered in sweat.  There was nothing to drink and looking at the ruins was looking at a bunch of bricks that are ready to fall over and it wasn't spectacular.  I wouldn't recommend taking an 8 year old through that because they will most likely get bored.  It was also April when I went through it.

  5. Take her.  I've been there before.  Very cool and from what i remember (if you're going to the ones on a cliff), there is a place to swim.  And large iguanas everywhere.

  6. its really fun, I went when I was 10.............idk if you will be doing this, but if you go into town there is a lot of fun stores to see.
