I am from Australia and will be working in the UK as a qualified accountant. I have checked out the Gumtree website but have no idea what a good place to stay would be. I need a place to stay that is also fully furnished.

  1. Start with your work location, then look for accommodation in a suburb on the tube/train line which leads out from there. Otherwise, as London is so big, you could end up spending hours everyday just commuting.

South West London is generally considered the nicest, cleanest and safest part.

  2. Any flat on green street will suit you

  3. transport is everywhere ... on average very close to a tube station is not a good location as it tends to attract noise and busy-ness ... a 10 minute walk or a short bus ride is usually better but you need to get to know London first ... I would suggest that you get something reasonably priced not too far from from where you're going to work where you don't commit yourself to a long lease or anything so that you give yourself a chance to look around and find something more longer-term that you like ... a flat share to start off with would probably be a good idea as then hopefully your flat-mates can help you learn your way round

  4. If you miss your countrymen, then I think that Earls Court is the place to be. It's got a tube station with the same name, and is on the edge of central london. From what I am told this area has a fairly large Australian expat community.

Since you are only 15 minutes away from central London you can lose your countryment quickly when you want to be around Londoners (or tourists, or muslims, or Chinese, etc.).

  5. stay at the athenaium hotel they have apartments and it is right next to buckingham palace so there is plenty of transportation

  6. London is a huge city with many neighborhoods.

The whole city is well covered by a transportation

network, but you'll need to be near the right part of it.

    Start with your work location,

determine which bus or tube lines are the closest,

    and work from there.

    Furnished accommodations are rather common.

As a rule, as you go out from the centre, it gets less expensive,

but there will also be high-priced pockets here and there.
