I will get us green card in 10 day but I want to go india for one year without green card is it fare for me ?

  1. Getting your green card and then taking off for your own country, you risk the big chance of losing the green card because of the time you will be out of the USA.  You would have to have special permission to be out of the country for that long of a period of time.


  2. Permanent residents (green card holders) who remain out of the US for over a year need a re-entry permit, which allows them to stay outside of the US and maintain their green card for up to 2 years.

    You need to apply for the re-entry permit before you leave the US or you will not be able to return to the US after a year abroad.

    You can apply for a re-entry permit by filing USCIS form I-131.

    Also keep in mind that having a re-entry permit does not guarantee they will let you back in when you come back.

    In other words, you're risking a lot by going back to India for so long.
