  1. here are a few points you'll need to know.

    1) if you're planning on feeding the cat regular food, avoid sardine! it makes their fur fall .. and you should worry about fur falling when summer begins, that's completely normal .. and of course milk is good for them! if it's still a baby, try getting those eye drop thingies and feed them milk with it (make sure it's clean first) as if they're suckling on their mom .. and i suggest full cream milk.

    2) they tend to claw at furniture a lot, so i suggest you get a cat tree .. which is a lil' tiny stool-like thing covered in a specific material among those that cats tend to claw at a lot .. everytime they claw at furniture or whatever, you hit them on their head and take them to the cat tree .. trust me, you don't want them messing up your furniture.

    3) feed them at least three times a day .. once in the morning, afternoon and night .. more than that and they might go all fat .. plus, you don't want them nagging at you all the time, so they'll eventually get used to it.

    4) get a litter box! if they do their business elsewhere, hit them and take them to the litterbox straight ahead .. and lock them in the room with the litterbox for like an hour, they learn their lesson.

different cats have different personalities, so one might be a bit more hyped up than the other, but that's normal. you can't exactly train them to umm unhypernize theirselves or whatever ..

but hey, they're amazing animals, you just gotta know how to take care of'em =)

PS - PS - help please? suggestions from anyone who's been in NY!

  2. cats are solitary and will come to u when they want attention.  as for its habits, cats sleep alot, are playful at night, and are very fast learners.  the only bad habit they have is that they are known for tearing up furniture. thats why if it is an inside cat i recommend having its front claws removed. also only give it milk if it is a kitten, they can drink liquid milk.

  3. all cats have different personalities. some are just loving and others can be very aloof. as for training them, never hit them. remove them from the area of the bad habit and buy a spray that will deter the cat from whatever you dont want them near. also have your cat neutered if it is male as males tend to spray urine to mark their territory, plus it keeps down the stray cat population. If a scratching post doesnt work you may want to think about getting your cat's front claws removed.

  4. careful don't give it too much milk from the store it can get sick and in a few cases die.... so plz be carful if ur giving it milk from the store!

  5. I also have recently gotten a cat. I have had her for a month & 3 days, today. She has many strange habits, which are normal. For instance, she will paw and scratch at the floor, right after she eats or drinks. This is because cats have a natural instinct, to hide or bury their food. She doesn't much like the scratching posts, and tries to scratch the walls, furniture, etc.. This too, is pretty much normal. The pet stores sell things that you can put in these spots, to keep them from ruining the furniture, walls, etc.. They also have a spray that you can use, which will stop them from scratching where you don't want them to. Some suggest using catnip on the scratching posts, but I don't recommend it. It makes them crazy. Almost as if they are drugged. As for milk... it depends on the cat's system, whether or not they can ever have milk. Offer your new cat a very small amount of skim/low fat milk. IF she/he vomits or acts sickly, then never give them milk. IF however, they are fine with it, then a very small amount os okay, but not very often. Just once in a great while. You don't want to get them hooked on it, or use to always having it available. Make sure, that your cat can look out the windows. If she/he is going to be an indoor cat, like mine, they really enjoy watching the action, outside ( like the birds and squirrels ). I can tell you lots of things about cats, based on my experience. 6. Cats should not be given cows milk, it can cause diahrrea.  Fresh water should be given to the kitten.  You kitten should not be taken away from its mother at an age where you have to feed it any sort of formula.
