It is obvious that the first guy doesn't want any more tourists moving to LA....nor do I. But, If you do move here, check the web for city  information. You can find out average rental rates, crime rates, schools and other important stuff.

Get a map and start picking out cities.....then punch them into your computer and get the details you need. When you find some places that fit your price range and crime rate, get into your car and check them out.

I think LA is cheaper than most European cities - but, there are always exceptions and we do have places that are more expensive than some European cities. Shop around and find a place that fits your budget.

Living in Los Angeles when rated according to the very weak U.S. dollar is truly a bargain when compared to the cost of living in London and Paris.  Understandably, there are often many off-limit and dangerous places to live in L.A., and that can also be said of certain seedy areas of Paris and London.  L.A. recently received notice that the 2008 murder rate was very low, matching the murder rate back in 1970!  That's a good indicator of how safe the City of L.A. is overall.  Nevertheless if you observe certain safety measures, such as not traveling alone too much on foot during late evening hours, moving on congested and heavily traveled thoroughfares, you will likely not become a criminal target.  And if you are looking for a truly Bohemian place to live, check out Hollywood.

Beverly Hills, Brentwood, Glendale, Santa Monica, Newport Beach.....lots of nice places to live.  Safe, good shopping, beautiful.

I think Paris and London are more expensive.  Other European cities such at Bucharest, Rome, Lisbon and Athens will be less expensive.
