I will not look after cricketing side of tour: Alam

Reappointed as the manager of the Pakistan cricket team, Intikhab Alam, has said that managing the Pakistani side will be a tough job given the match-fixing scandal that had taken place on their tour of England. Alam, who is a former captain of the Pakistani
side and has also coached the team, will take over the role of the manager from Yawar Saeed, who resigned from the post after the England tour.

Alam spoke the News and said, "My job will be to make sure that everything is okay in the UAE.  We will try our best to enhance the image of the Pakistan cricket team."

What could work against Alam is the fact that he had allegedly called the Pakistani cricket team mentally retarded at the end of the tour of Australia. He had done so in a PCB enquiry, but the videos of it were leaked out and that means that his relationship
with the players may not start off too well.

Alam did clarify that he had only meant to question the manner in which the players played cricket and added, "The whole thing was blown out of proportion.”

Alam had been the coach of the side that toured http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746 and immediately after that was replaced by Waqar Younis. What could get interesting would be the fact that Alam has been an ex-coach but will have no official say in matters of strategy, tactics or selection.
However, Alam played it down and said, "It will be the team's coaches who will take care of the cricketing side. I'll be there as a guiding hand but my main job will be to manage the team and that's it.”

He said that he would have no issues working with the likes of Younis and bowling coach http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Aaqib-Javed-c41431 given that he had known them well before. He added, “I've worked with the coaching staff before and I have a very good understanding with them.”
