The new Ajaccio signing has vowed to make an instant impact, promising that he will score more goals than his former Juventus teammate
The Romanian hitman, who has previously played for clubs like Chelsea, Juventus, Inter Milan and Fiorentina, recently joined Ajaccio from Serie B side Cesana. Amidst suggestions that the striker’s dwindling career is approaching to a fast end, the 33-year-old
has emerged to the scene and once again vowed to prove doubters wrong.
The visibly preturbed player upon reaching Ajaccio airport said, “I am not in pre-retirement”. Mutu then added, “What is more, I am launching a challenge to Zlatan Ibrahimovic – I will score more goals than him between now and the end of the season.”
Zlatan Ibrahimovic, one of the most expensive signings by PSG in recent transfer market, is reckoned by many to break all records in the history of Ligue 1, as the 30-year-old is known for a prolific goalscoring record. Also, Ligue 1 after having waited
for an enormously long period of time, has seen a striker of such class.
Ibrahimovic had already bagged two goals to his pocket after PSG came from behind to earn a 2-2 draw against Lorient in the season’s opener.
Ajaccio’s coach Alex Dupont has emphatically stated that Mutu will not be able to embark on a debut game until September 22 when the last season’s 16th place side play Bordeaux.
The capture of Mutu however is a significant coup for Ajaccio, keeping in mind the fact that the club has the third smallest budget in the Ligue 1. Ajaccio President Alain Orsoni, has come to the praise of the player too.
“Mutu was one of the biggest signings in the club’s history,” said the Ajaccio supremo.
It will be interesting to see once Mutu gets to scoring ways if he will be able to compete with the likes of the former AC Milan man and if he still has the killer instinct or is he just another player whose career is seemingly approaching to an end.
