Auckland is a city in New Zealand

I will fly from Melbourne, Australia to Hong Kong. However, it's not a direct flight. I'll transit in Auckland International Airport for 5 hours.

Question ) Can you suggest what I can do in Auckland International Airport during this 5-hour transit? Explore the airport ? Take photos in the airport or etc ? I've never been to New Zealand before.

Question 2) Can I tell my friends that I've been to New Zealand before ( even I transit in Auckland International Airport only ) ?

  1. Shop... buy NZ stuff like paua shell and kiwis, or take a photo of you posing by them then you'll have evidence you have been in New Zealand.  Website below has more details of facilities at the airport.

  2. Hi - Auckland International, if you are a transit passenger means you'll have to stay airside.  But, having said that, there's actually quite a lot of shopping in there, and I think a couple of bars/restaurants.  There are duty free stores (the usual) as well as jewellery, art, sunglass hut, cool t-shirts and other casual wear, you can easily waste time there!  Have fun in Hong Kong.  I love that place!  It totally rocks.

  3. unfortunately not alot, the airport is like most small airports world wide although the shops will have NZ stuff in them. The airport is a fair way away from the city but it may be worth puttin your stuff in a locker and going into the city for a couple of hours.

Id say if you spend an hour or so outside the airport you can claim having been to NZ :)

  4. If Immigration allow you out of the Transit Lounge (and they probably won't - other countries don't permit it) the probably Manukau Shopping Centre by taxi or Shuttle would be best. The Rainbows End fun park is just across the road from the Centre, so it's one or the other.

But probably you'll have to take a book with you to read from the inside of the Transit Lounge.

  5. If you ask the lady in the flower shop..she'll give you a key to a brilliant shower room!!! Really. The airport has the usuall stuff...coffee...bookshops etc...there is a place you can get wireless net if you've got a laptop....you can walk between domestic and international...but nothing really to write home about...
