The all-rounder from Sargodha replaced Misbah ul Haq earlier this month as Pakistan’s captain in the shortest format of the game. The Green Shirts are currently in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sri-Lanka-c758, where they will play two T20 internationals, five One Day Internationals and three
Tests against the home team.
The first T20 will be played on Friday at Hambantota and it will be a massive test of Hafeez’s skills as a leader. These two matches and the proposed series against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/ICC-World-Cup-2011-c100625 World T20 2012, which will
be played in Sri Lanka in September.
Considering such an important tournament round the corner, there was immense pressure on PCB to give the captaincy to a more experienced player like http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Ashraf-c46397, the Chairman
PCB.
While talking to Cricinfo, Hafeez expressed that playing international cricket is a dream of every young cricketer and to lead the country at the highest stage of the game is a huge honour. The all-rounder hopes that he will live up to the expectations
of the cricket-lovers in the country.
“Representing Pakistan at the national level is a big honour and being a captain of the side is the highest level you achieve as a cricketer. It's a privilege and I am thankful to the PCB for honouring me and trusting me,” said Hafeez.
The opening batsman understands that he will be put under pressure straight-away because the Pakistani fans always expect big things from their team.
He added, “Pakistan is a cricket-loving country and people get too emotional, mainly because the expectations are very high. I think there is a need to understand the sport and its components. It's a game in which you can't maintain a straight winning graph
because you can't have the same day every day.”
