I want to learn a Martial Arts style, however, I'm really not sure on what to choose. Can someone give me a site that lists types of Martial Arts and such? If that's no possible, I'll give an explanation of what I'd be more focused on.

If anything, I'd want to be more of a person that can avoid physical contact a good portion of the time and using combat when necessary. Example: Dodging, Blocking, ect... But at the same time, I want the physical combat to be quite efficient.

Can someone help me out?

  1. There are websites that list alot of different martial arts.

My advice based on what you want as your fighting style is Tai Chi. You learn to dodge, avoid, deflect, parry, while staying balanced, and stronger then your opponent.

Tai chi is an awesome martial art to learn, Master's rarely if ever get hit, and they try not to hurt their opponents, though if they must, they could really do some damage.

  5. take some private lessons at some dojos near home.  privates let you get a feel for what the art has to offer, instead of taking classes for years and years.  you need to do what feels good to you.  a fight is all about imposing your will on the other guy, not learning a set of moves to use in a fight.

example, judo is my fave to practice, but my most functional are jiu-jitsu, and muay thai.  its all about you.  be honest with why you are getting into this stuff, for me it was bouncing, needed it to take care of business quick.

    good luck
