I wish to volunteer in a Latin community near Boston?

I can go on the weekends, but I speak Spanish and I wish to volunteer. I am just in high school, and I don't live with many Hispanics. I wish to find a place where I could volunteer on the weekends or something and get some nice Hispanophone friends that can relate to our culture.

Thanks.

  1. Try these websites.  You might be able to find what you're looking for, or something else you may be interested in.

  2. Hispanophone friends??

  3. Nuestra Communidad may be a place to start with.  You may also want to check out Mission Hill, I believe they have youth programs geared for this population.  I can't remember their agency name.  I'm sure you can google them or something.

Last but not least is Villa Victoria at the South End.  The organization has a rich cultural/arts tradition geared to Latinos, specifically Boricuas (Puerto Ricans).

    I hope this helps.

  4. There are a number of Hispanic communities, depending on their country of origin. It is not just one type with common interests and common accents. Try looking in the Boston Globe's calendar or arts and entertainment or in any of those free newspapers. Watch for events in Lawrence, Jamaica Plain, and Chelsea for example to see what might be of interest and where you can find where some help is needed.
