I won't be playing at the age of 38-39, says Clarke - Cricket News Update
The newly married Australian skipper, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/MJ-Clarke-c1978, has said that unlike many of his predecessors, he will call it quits somewhere around mid 30s.
"I am enjoying playing now but in time I won't be the guy playing at 38, 39 and 40. I hope I can have my impact in a short space of time and then be finished," the Australian skipper was quoted as saying by the Australian media.
“I have so many goals…I would love to see the team have success, achieve what it can achieve…and when my time is up, it is up," he added further.
The 31-year-old http://www.senore.com/Cricket/RT-Ponting-c2377 as the Australian skipper in April last year, has so far led the side quite successfully in the Test and one day format of game. To date, he has led the
Kangaroos in 15 Tests winning nine of them, while lost only three and the other three ended in draw.
His ODI captaincy record is equally impressive where the News South Wales middle-order batsman holds an above 70% win rate as captain. He has led the Australians in 41 One Day Internationals with a win-loss ratio of 29 to
12.
Clarke’s predecessor, Ricky Ponting, is 37 and is still in no mood to bid adieu to international cricket. The Tasmanian veteran was earlier this month snubbed from http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746’s ODI squad and many foresee a similar end to his
Test career, but Ponting is adamant he still has a lot of cricket left in him and can continue for another couple of years. Another former Australian captain, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Stephen-Rodger-Waugh-c91216, had stretched his cricketing career till the age of 38.
But http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Clarke-c51120, who tied the knot with Kyly Boldy last week, said that he is enjoying playing but would not extend it till late 30’s. While unveiling his secret marriage with Boldy, Clarke said that he would be settling
down and starting his family in the next few years.
Asked about his goals as Australian captain, Clarke said that he was looking forward to topple http://www.senore.com/Cricket/England-c56013, who are currently relishing their world no. 1 Test status.
Australia is next scheduled to tour England for a five-match ODI series from late June.
