I wonder...how many planes take off and land each day?

NPR reported about 25,000 commercial flights per day back in August.

I thought the number was about 3 times higher than that.

On an average day, there are approx 6000 aircraft in the air at any given time during the peak areas of the day.  This excludes military aircraft and aircraft that are not on an IFR flight plan (so many general aviation flights would be excluded).

I have never seen more than 8200 airborne at one time.

Anyway, based on that I would think the number is significantly higher than what NPR reported.

I would hazard a guess and say ALL of the planes that takeoff , land at some point in time.....
