Hi,

This is the second time I am wanting to breed my lop with my sisters lion head (she had her first litter last august when she was 2) she was such a good mum and we gave all of the kits away to friends and family when they were 7 weeks old and they are all adorable and she was such a good mummy to them. So on Sunday I brought my sisters bunny round again and they adore each other anyway so I left them in the garden (hoping they would mate) I saw them do it bout 4 times but because my bunny is so so so fluffy and espesh round her back end I do not know if he managed to do anything. He didn't seem as interested as when they got together and mated last year, she wasn't pushing him away they were just playing for ages then got on with it a few times. When I put my bunny (Cookie) back in the cage, I went to get her out on the sunday night and she grunted at me twice (very not like her) so I wonder why she did that. But is there anyway to tell early on that she may be having kits again. (ps do not worry I have an available 12 homes for the new kits as I do know that on their second pregnancy they can have a lot more then she had the firt time (which was 4)

Thanks for any answers

  1. she probably is pregnant, given the unusual grunting, but i think you should just wait, it wont take long any way!

  2. i think your bunny is pregnant and grunting because she is pregnant and doesnt want you to touch her tummy as she has alot of kits. she will be pregnant for 30 days then she will have the kits.BUT I AM POSOTIVE SHE WILL BE PREGGERZ

  3. Well, grunting can definitely be a sign about a doe being pregnant. Normally does will have completely different personalities when they become pregnant. I had one doe who was rather mean, yet having babies turned her into a sweetheart. You can do palpation at about 12 days or more by squeezing in the tummy to feel around for little pebbles which will be babies. That is how the vets determine if there are babies or not.  Yes, the mother may have a few more babies than last time or a few less, but normally they stay around a good number.

    Good Luck!

  4. You could take her to the vet and see what they say. But if it was me, I'd just wait a little while and see if there are any more signs of it. It is likely and probable that she is pregnant (but not definite) because rabbits are highly fertile.
