I wonder what will happen in the world now Russia has invaded Georgia? (Kind of long question)

Do we have on our hands the proper ingredients for the making of World War III?

"Russia has invaded a sovereign neighboring state and threatens a democratic government elected by its people. Such an action is unacceptable in the 21st century," the president said in a televised statement from the White House, calling on Moscow to sign on to the outlines of a cease-fire as the Georgian government has done.

"The Russian government must reverse the course it appears to be on and accept this peace agreement as a first step toward solving this conflict," Bush said, adding that he is deeply concerned that Russia, which Georgian officials say has effectively split their country in two, might bomb the civilian airport in the capital of Tbilisi. - Yahoo! News

Why is all of this happening now? I thought Russia was a neutral country anymore since the Soviet USSR has been dissolved or so we thought? From what I gather the United States, Great Britain, Canada, France, Germany, Italy and Japan spoke in a conference call, during which they noted that Georgia had agreed to a cease-fire and wanted to see Russia sign on immediately.

Russia has been successful in splitting the country of Georgia in two and for what? With all of Europe, Japan, and the U.S. angry does this unexpected conflict spell war to be held with Russia now? So far I know that Russia is still a communist country and one of the few, while Georgia is a western-like democratic country. So why would Russia be picking on the free nation that borders. The last time Russia invaded a country it was Afghanistan in 1979 and eleven years before that in 1968 Czechoslovakia. Is Russia trying to expand? I have nothing against the country what so ever I'm just confused on all this out break of war, and it seems that the whole world is just wanting to go to war around all at the same time, maybe because they see other countries doing it and thinks that it's OK I'm only assuming when it surely is not OK.

Didn't Russia have to consult the United Nations - NATO before they decided to invade Georgia in the first place because from what I've gathered it's just been a surprise thing that the U.N. - NATO had no prior knowledge of. If Russia does not head President Bush's warning to back down what would become of this crisis?

As read in the news: "The U.S. Embassy in Georgia has distributed an initial contribution of $250,000 in humanitarian relief to victims of the fighting and is providing emergency equipment to people in need, although those supplies would run out later Monday, the department said.

The Pentagon said it had finished flying some 2,000 Georgian troops back home from Iraq on C-17 aircraft at Georgia's request.

It said it had informed the Russians about the flights before they began in order to avoid any mishaps, but Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin harshly criticized the step, saying it would hamper efforts to resolve the situation by reinforcing Georgian assets in a "conflict zone."

Wood rejected the criticism, saying: "We're not assisting in any conflict."

Defense Department spokesman Bryan Whitman said the U.S. flew the Georgians out of Iraq as part of a prior agreement that transport would be provided in case of an emergency." - Yahoo! News

Does this mean that Russia thinks we've betrayed them through the action of the prior agreement to Georgia that transport would be provided in a case of an emergency?

I hope the United States doesn't declare war on Russia in the defense of Georgia because our Military is already sped thin to it's maximum limit. If war is called on to Russia but the United States does this mean our country will be taken more people like myself with RE-3P reentry codes? Will a draft be in affect since there is not enough Military Personnel especially in the United States Marine Corps, and the United States Army, and possibly the United States Navy?

I mean I'm trying to join the military again but every day gives me a new reason to rethink this decision because I really don't want to go to war with any Russian's. I have no quarrel's with Russia except for the part were innocent Georgian civilian life has already been lost to the greedy, lustful, and hateful business of useless warfare. So I guess I'd help support a fellow country that adopted the democratic way of life, or freedom.

But for what cost of human life must be payed before people realize that war is nothing but a tool to be profited from? As asked in the beginning is this the proper ingredients for World War III?

I can't wait to read the opinions of others from all over the world on this matter. Thanks for the time taken to read this.

  1. Russia didn't have to consult NATO (Russia has always opposed to this military alliance and as well as a lot countries that don't want it expansion to the east) and United Nations do not have legal force to prevent anything. When USA invaded Iraq UN couldn't do anything either. First Russia didn't invade Georgia, it was a response to Georgia invading South Osetia, the breakaway republic that borders Russia and which have Russia's support. Russia is not a communist country, it has it's problems but unlike Georgia (who's 'democratic' elections were announced as fraud by international community) but Russia functions as a democratic country. Also don't believe everything media says, especially if it's biased.

  2. Part of joining the army is faith in the government and faith in your country ;]. There's too much to risk if US decides to get militarily involved. It could result in a world war and nuclear warfare. During war, a draft is possible under the American constitution, they can enlist all first-born in an emergency in order to bolster the ranks of the military.

  3. We have a nimrod on deck in charge of our military forces (Bush) we have been weakened immensely by needless war and destruction.  Our economy is in the crapper (excuse the term) and the world is divided moreless in two parts.

Here's the split, Russia China Iran and probably some of our less than friendly allies Saudi Arabia Sudan Venesula (sp) and most likely some of those African countries that dont really have much, Egypt and those guys, against:

USA (woot) Europe (for the most part) Israel (good fighters, beat back an entire world in 6 days) South Africa Australia (oops, are they still a military power?) Japan and all of our tiny country puppets.

We got the millitary to fight a long drawn out war, but no one is going to allow that to happen, and Bush is going to jump at the chance to end the world with a push of  a button.  So...  Boom, boomboom we all are going down.  Most likely victor, China, population is on their side, and they have an unapproachable land mass that would be impossible to sac.

Most likely Historical Interpretation, The US invaded Iraq illegally Russia and China bide their time to attack us and we got our evil bums handed to us.

However, I could be over reacting and seeing enemies where they are not.

But WW 3 with a Bush in office, that's my prediction from way back when he first ran for pres.  lol  Too bad he waited so long, I was loosing hope.

  4. In the first place Georgia is a break away Republic that used to be part of the Soviet Union i.e. Russia dating back to the 1800's.

Matter of fact what surprises me is Russia has not moved to reoccupy Georgia a whole lot sooner than now.

Not much the U.S, can do really. It is like this what would the Untied States do if California tried to sucede from the union.?

We'd move troop in to occupy it right. And not a whole any other country could do.

That is more or less the same with Russia and Georgia.

This is one the Untied States needs to stop being a bunch of busy body church ladies and keep our noses out of it.

But here is the funny part. The news is making a big deal about the U.S, training the Georgian soldiers. Not true they were already trained.

What the U.S, has been doing is teaching them how to fight the Muslims extremist who are up in the mountains along the Georgian Russian Border.

Now double funny the U.S. has also been teaching the Russian soldiers as well.

So we have dogs on both sides of this fight.

Plus we have bases all over Russia used to lift supplies to support our troops in Afganhistan.

So in a way we are between the rock and hard place on this one.
