WARNING: THIS IS MY OWN PERSONAL OPINION, SO DON'T GET MAD AT ME, BUT PLEASE ANSWER HOW YOU FEEL...

so i'm kinda buzzing right now, & i wonder, "why get drunk"? let me explain from my point of view the things involved with getting "plastered":

1) the NASTY taste of alcohol.

2) booze makes you more bolegerant, aka AN A**HOLE.

3) i feel like i have to take a "p**s" more often when i am drunk then any other time (intoxicated or not)

4) hangovers

5 dizzy feelings (fun yes, but not always)

& 6) memory loss. which is fun at times, but not for such an anolitical punk like myself (especially when i'm trying to figure what the h**l is wrong with life, drugs & such forth)

  1. I totally agree..........why do it?  What is the point?  I have NEVER understood it myself.

  2. I'll try to respond to the points as best I can from my perspective.

    1)  Except gin, I like the taste of alcohol when mixed with juice or sodas.  Shots are a different story, but I avoid those whenever I can.

    2) Alcohol makes me lose inihibitions, so I may say things I would otherwise keep to myself.  However, I do not get belligerent.  Some people do, while some other get sleepy or S****y or giggly, etc.

    3) This does happen, because alcohol is a diuretic, but so are tea, coffee, and sodas.  It's partly why alcohol makes you dehydrated.

    4) Hangovers are caused partly by that same dehydration.  If you drink a lot of water after you finish drinking, or while you are drinking, you will be less dehydrated and so will have less of a hangover.

    5) Dizziness is caused by dehydration also, which affects the brain, including the balance part, the cerebellum.

    6) Memory loss is caused by alcohol's effects on the brain also.

The short answer seems to be: getting drunk is fun sometimes because loss of inhibition tends to make for a good time had, and drink lots of water in between drinks to avoid all those bad effects.  Try eating starches before/while drinking too, like pretzels or something.

  3. 1) High quality alcohol tastes great. You're drinking the cheap stuff.

    2) Alcohol makes me love everyone in the world. The people that become a##holes are generally...a##holes to begin with.

    3) Boo hoo...

    4) You only get a hangover if you overindulge, moderate use doesn't cause them.

    5) Again...caused by overindulgence, moderation doesn't cause this.

6)Yet again...caused by overindulgence, moderation doesn't cause this.

It is your opinion and you are welcome to it...but I encourage you to educate yourself properly before forming them (opinions) in the future.

    Why do it...

Frankly, if your only reason for consuming alcohol is getting drunk, you shouldn't. If your intent it to enjoy the flavors and the experiences...fine. Me, I enjoy the taste of craft beer. I love sampling it and then writing reviews only. I age it and sample it later as well...comparing the two and contrasting the differences over time.

  4. for that special feeling

  5. The two real answers for why people drink:

    7) (From someone with a steady dependence on chemicals) To escape from reality, if only for a few hours or days.

    8) As an excuse to do whatever you want and justify it to yourself and others if need be.  (Logic rarely breaks down in the drunk's mind and most of them act with complete clarity, however inhibitions are lowered making them more susceptible to act on primal urges.  There is also this sort of feeling across society that we can write off ill or naughty behavior performed by drunk people because, well - their drunk.  This is a major fallacy and it needs to be addressed by anyone with any intention of allowing alcohol to touch their lives.)

Edit: I can't rate answers because I'm not Level 2 but I think everyone should give JDubs a thumbs-up.  His answer is so succint, yet so eloquent.

  6. alcohol tastes good. if you're an a hole the alcohol isn't the only thing that shows it. "A drunk man speaks what a sober man thinks." I think is the expression. The urination is very annoying and is really one of the few downsides to drinking. The dizziness is not that big of a deal and memory loss doesn't come with just being drunk, you can get drunk and remember things, if you're completely smashed, passing out and whatnot, thats when memory loss happens.

  7. 1. Alcohol tastes good if you're drinking the right kind.  Do a little experimenting, find something you like.

    2. Booze won't make anyone an a*****e... but it will make someone who's an a*****e while sober MORE of an a*****e.

    3. That's true. But really, I don't find it to be that much of a problem.

    4. Yeah. Hangovers suck. That's the price you pay.

    5. Usually fun... unless you have too much.  In that case, the solution is drink less.

    6. Usually you'll only have memory loss if you drink waaay too much. Just cut back a little.
