I work at a McDonald's in Kentucky. I asked an employee that has been working there for about 6 yrs. about it being so hot in there and she said that the air goes out every summer. I have a heart condition. what can I do to fix this problem? I don't want to quit, I have enjoyed working there for the past 3 months. Please help.

  1. nothing

  2. I work at a restaurant too and it gets extremely hot in the summer.  Some days we have to turn the ovens off.  Here are some things we do to cool down.

    Drink lots of ice water.

Take 1 min breaks in the freezer or cooler.  Make sure Someone is covering for you.

Wipe your face with a cool paper towel.

    Wear shorts

    Wear thin shirts

    Drink MORE ice water.

Get Fans ( we got some fans up on the ceiling, and it has helped a lot.  It is still really hot but not as bad as previous years.  It was 35 dollars a fan and a managers spouse put them up).

  3. Ask them to put an industrial size fan in the kitchen area.

  4. I work at McDonalds too, and i like it, but i dont have that problem. What I would do is call the kentucky health department at 606-437-5500.(i researched that #) McDonalds is violating the health department laws, Just tell them that they are not helping you with your health condition. I hope i helped!

  5. carry one of those self fans that are handheld, if anything get the one that adds a little mist. if they have a problem with u doing that or having a fan, say u have a condition and they have to do something to make u more comfortable.

  6. Call the Health Department, clearly they are in violation of code.

  7. wear lots of deodorant to keep you cool.

move to a different part in the restaurant-one thats not as hot.

    tell the manager- complaint box.

relocate- work at a different mcdonalds.

  8. AC units are only designed to lower the temp inside by a margin of about 20degrees so if its 90 outside the absolute best you are gonna get would be 70 and that would only be when there is no cooking equipment running.  Take into account the fryers and grills are running at 400-500 degrees and on top of that the outside air temp and the constant flow of people in and out.  That's not an excuse for the boss not to fix a broken AC but it may not have the capacity to keep up.

  9. I use to work at a mcdonalds in kentucky too. And their A/C went out every summer and it got sooooo hot in there. If it really start to cause you some problems then tell the owner or the manager that runs everything not the shift manager they don't give a s**t. If they still don't do anything get a not from you doctor proving that no a/c is going to cause problems for you. And if they still don't do anything then I would recommend contacting someone like the BBB or something like that.

  10. Well, you could talk to the manager about being in the coolest location possible. But, since you can't always assume everywhere has air conditioning, I would just take some of the usual steps you probably already are used to having to deal with: carry lots of cold ice water with you, and a small fan, maybe the kind that also mists cool water on you? Wear light clothes, etc. . . See if you can make the best of it, and if you start to feel ill whatsoever just remove yourself from the situation. . . Good luck!

  11. go in the freezer

  12. Ask the boss if there are plans to fix the system.  If none -- find another place to work.

  13. Get one of those mini light up fans from party america.

  14. ask them to put a fan where your working. Or ask them about getting the place air condition.

  15. I don't know of a McDonald's that does not have Air Conditioning.

The first problem is that you are in Kentucky. As I recall, Kentucky has not only heat in the summer, but humidity as well.

The second problem is that you are working  in the counter and kitchen area. Those are places where you cannot escape the heat from the kitchen, or the front doors with customers entering regulalry.

Maybe the A/C unit is faulty, but your work environment is pretty normal for any grill/kitchen work area.
