I work at a library... does that automatically make me a nerd?

My friends all tell me I'm a nerd cause i work at a library... what do you think?

I don't think so. What's wrong with loving quiet places, and loving to read books. I'll define nerd.

I worked at a library for 10 years, and I have never been a nerd. I was known as "the really wild one."

Here's something for your friends to chew on. We had younger kids who were in high school who worked as shelvers when I worked in the library system. On average, their starting wage was about $2 per hour more than if they worked in a fast food restaurant or a grocery or retail store. They weren't required to spend all their money buying clothing so they could work at someplace like Hollister. They didn't come home covered in fast food grease every night. They didn't have to clean toilets or floors. Everyone else their age was either working fairly dirty jobs, or working in places where you had to wear certain clothes and spend your whole check on buying those clothes. All in all, we usually had a waiting list of about 100 names for kids who wanted to come in and interview for a better job at better money.

So no, you aren't a nerd. And you probably have a better job than any job your friends have. Also, a job in a place like a library is much more helpful later on a resume than a job at a fast food place.

Looks to me like you are in an enviable position :)  And money is money--don't ever forget that.

Nope, no more than me...I work in a bookstore. It's pretty relaxing and calm. Love it!

Your friends are trying to hard to be cool or look cool. You work there because you like it. That doesn't make you a nerd. Their the ignorant ones for even saying your a nerd. I wouldn't worry about it.
