Everyday the kids in the back of the line dont pay attention and cause huge gaps in the line, which is realy irritating, especially when we were walking for long distances. What are some ways that i can get the kids to line up better and pay attention to what we are saying

  1. every day get them to line up in different order without talking

    by brithday

    by height

    by shoes size etc

that makes them pay attention at first.

if they can conduct themselves v well reward them with an extra 5 min recess.

to get their attention put yr hand up in the air- then everyone has to put their hand up in the air in silence.

or say"clap once clap twice" and htey have to clap twice on the second sentence, to  get their attention.

then move so that all can see u - stand towards the middle of the line and say what u need.

  2. I always tell the front kids to stop. I make my way to the back look at the straight in the eye and speak firmly, " get in a straight line please _____ [their name]" it always works b/c you get close and personal with them

I also use incentives as a best linner-upper.

Who walks quietest and straightest.. They get a pencil or eraser at the end of the day.. or candy.

If they continue being bad, I make them go back to the class by themselves.. or give them to the kindergarden, or preschool teacher for about 30 min. :)

I also thereathen to not take the class anywhere unless they're in a straight line. so the kids who are being good yell at the bad ones to get in line!!

Lastly, I tell them no free time/play time today unless they get in line. [AND I MEAN IT, you must too, or they won't take you srsly.]

I've had to not give them playtime 3 days in a row.

The really bad ones i talk to the parents or make them write lines [ I WILL MAKE A STRAIGHT LINE ] like 50 or 100 times in  white paper!

    HOPE I HELPED! :)

questions? let me know.. my email is on my page!!

be well & good luck :)

  3. Use eye contact with them. Also, don't shout at them from the front of the line. This won't work. Instead, you need to go to where they are to speak to them.

For walking long distances, depending on their age, get them to spot different things as you go along. Maybe play I-spy

Observe how your colleagues get the children to behave and pay attention. Maybe, if you felt comfortable, ask some of them for some tips. After all, everyone who has worked with children has experienced some problems at some point, so I'm sure they would all have to tips and wouldn't mind sharing with you
