I work at walmart...?

I am 17 and I am a walmart sales associate at one of the world's busiest walmarts. I spend most of my time on register and covering for the people greeter we seem to always be missing. I like working on the floor, but I never have a chance and I hate register and get bored door greeting. I just want to do the job I am getting paid to do. But I always get hunted down do something else. (They had enough nerve to tell me in my evaluation that I don't take pride in my area because it's not clean enough, yet I'm never there.) Is it time I try to find another job or should I just suck it up? Any suggestions on another job?

  1. Look for a better job, but in the meantime stay @ Wal Mart to make $$$$. Good luck.

  2. as far as doing the job you get paid to do...you should feel lucky thats all you have to do..im a merchandise manager (department manager) and i have to do that job, stock the shelves, zone ( straighten the shelves) door greet if needed, run the registers when needed, stocked other departments if needed ,ive even unloaded trucks..youre getting paid to DO customer service and the registers are not the only place customer service is done.if you want to only do one specific job..then a job that has a union would probably better suited for you since your union boss would see to it that would be all you do.walmart is not against unions ,but in my opinion ,walmart shouldnt have to apologize for putting its customers first, walmart isnt perfect (far from it) but there are worst jobs than walmart.....besides if youre asking yourself all those questions..then you dont need us to tell you the obvious

  3. This is a toughie.  It always seems to happen in low class places, the younger people get conflicting demands from different incompetent older people.  The person who said it's not clean enough, maybe if he's important enough, you could ask to be allowed more time there because you keep getting called away.  Maybe say you agree you should be there and see what you can do about being called away so often.

In the meantime, you might consider a job at a nicer place.  Maybe Costco would be a better bet?  You have the advantage of being a smart younger person and could move forward.  Dress well and smile, don't tell that Walmart was a poor experience because it's disorderly but maybe say you think Costco would be a great one because it's so orderly.

    Hope this helps!

I just saw your addition.  Six months seems like a nice time to look to see what else is available, using your job experience to help find a place where you can make better use of your skills.  But I don't know what else is out where you are.  In any event, best of luck to you!

  4. It is always time to try to improve yourself.  Talk to your supervisor about ways that you can improve your own performance, and start looking for a better job.  Your current job will likely become more rewarding as you develop a better relationship with your direct supervisor, but you should still look for a better job.
