I must have HAD to apply at Publix and not be offered a job by then and Albertsons themselves have to not offer me a transfer within 50 miles . Can they legally tell me I HAVE to apply at Publix before they give me a severance package for being bought out?

  1. by law they are not required to offer severance and so they may decide how it will be administered as a matter of their policy. your failure to apply for a job with Publix will probably disqualify you for unemployment insurance benefits as well. your employer is being more then fair in their efforts to assist you at this time of change.

  2. Sure they can.  They aren't legally required to pay you any severance, so they can set the rules for getting it.

  3. Florida is a at will state.... you can have a job one day and the next your employer , for ne reason, can let you go.... so they do not have to offer you severance....

  4. They don't owe you anything, even a job. What kind of person feels entitled to a severance package for a grocery store job?
