  1. yes you should get a break or something. I would talk to your boss to confirm the employee policy. good luck!

  2. I work at a retail shop in Ohio.  They say if I work 4-5 hours I get one 15 minute break.   if I work 6-7 hours a 30 minute lunch and one 15 minute break.  If I work 8 or more hours then two 15 minute breaks and and hour for lunch.

This might be a Gap inc company policy but I think it is a state regulation as my manager says we get fined if we break the rules.

good luck and stand up for your rights.

  3. For a 6-7hour shift you should get a 20 minute break. Between 4-6 hours you get a 15 min break and after 7 hour you get a 15 min break and a 30 min lunch.  With Kohl's being a very busy store sometimes supervisors forget to give the associates a break therefore when it's around the middle of your shift and have not had a break yet you should politely call  the supervisor and remind them that you have not gone on break yet.

  4. You have to work 8 hours for a lunch.  Working for a corporation such as Kohl's you should have been given some sort of employee handbook.  I would consult that first and if you don't find it in there, then there should be some sort of hot-line you can call.  Keep in mind that breaks don't necessarily have to be paid breaks.

  5. Yeah

  6. If you work 6-7 hours you do get a paid 20 minute break.

When you feel like you need a break, call the E3 and let them know that you would like to take your 20. It might take a few minutes for them to find somebody to cover for you, if necessary, but they are not allowed to deny you your break.

  7. a break, not a lunch.

  8. Unfortunately, there is no requirement. Neither Ohio law nor Federal law requires meal breaks for adults.   Minors are required to have a break at least once every 5 hours, but there is no requirement for adults.  So, it is up to the employer whether to give you a break.  They *should* do that, but they don't have to under the law.

By the way, if an employer does give employees a break time, there are some requirements.  Meal breaks in most cases have to be at least 30 minutes and can be unpaid time.  Shorter breaks (what most people think of as coffee breaks) have to be paid time.  But as I said, there is no requirement under the law for the employer to offer any break at all.

I know you were looking for a different answer, but unless you are under age, Kohl's is within its rights not to offer any break time.

I hope this helps.  See the source for more info.

  9. I thought it was eight hours then you get a lunch...I guess it depends on your age. did you get a handbook when you started?

  10. It obviously varies from state to state.  In the state of Connecticut, any shift to six hours earns a 15 minute break.  6-8 gets a 20 minute, 7-8 gets a 15 min and a 30 min off the clock.  Beyond 8 gets more breaks.

Ask your store manager or one of the office support personnel.  In my store, there's a sheet that tell what the breaks are.
