I'm a mid-level executive at the company, but I don't have a connection to our top honcho's. I'm looking for a decent plan to change the companies procedure. Serious responses only please.

  1. Why don't you start it? Let others folllow!

  2. Get a petition started to let the boss's or the owner that you guys (Gals) are  environmentally conscious..  Good luck   Grant M in Pensylvania

  3. One thing you can put on your list would be all aluminum can's could be put in one separate bin in each separate office space and individual offices.  Individual offices could have separate trash can.

As far as paper products go, I hope the company is shredding, which also can be recycled.  As for other paper put in trash can's, that could be removed and put into large plastic bags for recycling.

The problem you may run into here is who is going to put the paper from waste paper baskets in all the offices into large bags and transport to where ever that may be.

I'm thinking of cleaning staff who come in after hours may be for this idea or not.  You would have to find out what there routines are and go from there.  Wouldn't think it fair for the cleaning staff to handle all of the burden.  Cleaning and office staff may have to come together and talk about a plan of action like perhaps helping each other.

Office supplies and the like generally come in cardboard boxes and delivered to designated areas and emptied and supplies distributed.  The cardboard boxes of course should be broken down and recycled.

You and/or formed committee will have to figure costs.  How much money will this cost the company.  That's what it all comes down to.  It can either save money for the company or cost the company money.  That's where good, precise planning comes into play.  Do the figures down to the penny.

Perhaps more workers from the company can help you when it comes to ideas regarding the whole picture regarding how to set up a recycling plan and of course costs.

You're going to have to write up a proposal to present to the top executives.

In my State it's required for any business to recycle or get fined.  Check out what your State's requirements are.  It may give you more leverage.

Good luck.  You have taken on a lot.  If you don't do it, who will?  You're on your way to opening people's minds instead of going day to day doing our jobs and giving no thought to where all the paper, cardboard, aluminum is going and what is our part and the company's part in the big pictur.

  4. Use the power of Capitalism.  Find someone who wants to buy your waste and you'll be a hero!

  5. Just go up there and slap the CEO on the back and tell him to get Green. you'll be connected then.

  6. Do research on the processes whih you belive your company is having a negative environmental impact.

Research corrective methods which will actually benefit the company's bottom line.

Draw up a business plan with a time line.

Make sure you have researched everything thoroughly.

If an when you get to present it you will have to be ready to respond to and discount many negatives.

Before presenting this plan, here is a procedure that proves the ideas are yours.

Roll it up so the back of 1st page is on the out side and take it to your local post office.

Put your name and home address on it.

Place proper postage on it and have the post office cancel it.

Make sure the cancellation has a legible date on it.

Keep this copy in a safe location (safety deposit box).

Wait at least 2 weeks to a month.

After you have done this make an appointment to present your business plan to upper management.

Make sure you bring all your notes and if you are good with powerpoint, use it, but do not depend on it.

Print out copies of the powerpoint presentation - technology often fails when you really need it to work.

Rehearse it in front of a mirror and have a trusted member of your family throw some negative questions at you.

    Good Luck.

  7. I wouldnt worry about not knowing the Higher-Ups of the company.I'd try getting some recycle bins (or even small cardboard boxes) and put them in the break room/lunch room and see if people respond. If that works out well, try talking to your main boss about it.If all goes well, ask him to ask his boss and see if you can get in on the discussion about it.If that works out, keep asking higher and higher. If you get enough support, you can write up a proposal and submit it to the head of the company(or the highest person you can talk to) and see if you can get him to start a recycling contract with one of your local recycling companies!

    Good Luck!

  8. Consider writing a proposal detailing the recycling activities that your company could participate in.  Start at the bottom and work your way up in the process of moving it forward.

Alternatively, gather materials for your proposal and start in your own office, using your own efforts.  Get some recycling bins and put them in the break area and ask workers who use it to consider recycling their own waste like paper, glass, etc..  Then gather the bins and deliver them to the recycling center yourself.  People will talk about it and the word will get around.  Don't be surprised if someone up the line takes notice and asks about your ideas.  Taking the initiative may actually be good for your career as well as the planet.

    Good luck!

  9. Send a post on your companies bullit, of take to the HR people.
