-if it was clean, and the kids were under control/catered for - 1 restaurent i went to handed out colouring books and crayons and had a wall of the best pics. o and the foods reasonably inexpensive but good

-if the cutlery/plates/floor/tables were dirty, if the staff were rude and if the food was c**p

I prefer a non-pub atmosphere when with little ones...too many games that pull them away from the table. But I do like the cozyness of a pub when with a date or friends.  I have found that most also serve wonderful "norm" foods at fair prices.

I looove to eat out AMAP...I prefer fine dining, however...unintrusive service...and clean, light surrounds.

I have over 20 yrs. in the restaurant biz--wait, bar, & mgmt., so I'm more critical than most.  I expect NEVER to hear/see discord among employees/management, or vaccuuming/sweeping while I'm eating.  I look for places that cater to smokers as well as nons...I just like the democracy of that, and appreciate that owners put more into their businesses to accommodate such.

I frequent good foods as priority, nice service & surrounds as second & third...I weigh the prices by those three offerings.  I look at staff & mgmt.--they should be neat, courteous, & unstressed on the floor.  Of course, there are those times when the chef is being uncooperative, 2 emps don't show for work, large parties show up out of the blue, or some little one is screaming relentlessly...no matter...I look for professional attendance through such obstacles...this is where I weigh my tip amount...and I'm a 20% plus kind of diner. Any sway from that would definately make me not return again.
