The ceilings are very high and besides the front doors, there are the receiving doors in the back but those are blocked by swing doors.

  1. I used to work in a school as a cleaner and the guy who worked next to me always had birds in his area (the feathered kind, not women).. His area was the stair block, so you can imagine how high the ceilings were in there!

The first time one came in, he managed to catch it in his hands, and take it to the door. The other times he wasn't so lucky and we resorted to using a net with a long handle, and taking it outside that way.

You could try herding it towards the door with something. I guess that depends on how high your ceilings are though.

  2. If the store is open 24 hours, it may be impossible to catch the bird.

The best way to catch a bird inside, is to turn off the lights.  Most birds can't see in the dark, and will not fly. Use a bird net ($10), or hand towel to catch the bird.

Had the same situation in a warehouse.  We caught them with a net, using cherry pickers, warehouse stairs and flashlights.

  3. If you want a almost clear conscience-

Give them rice, then it wont be you killing them it will be the pigeons killing themselves because they eat the rice then explode.

If you want a completely clear conscience -

you may have yo call in the rspca who can remove them probably for free due to the fact they are near food.

  4. There's always sparrows flying around inside our Walmart.  You can see them in the rafters, and while walking down the food isles sometimes they'll land in front of me on a shelf...but they can almost always be found in the mirror section.  It'd be a good place to towel them and set them free outside.

Any possible way you can convince your manager to set up some mirrors or feeders in the back so you can trap them?  When you see one, throw a dish towel over it, scoop it up gently and carry it outside to let it go.
