  1. I think that it's common to feel more intimidated when the head honcho is present :)  One can always ask to talk with the owner/supervisor and ask how they feel about one's work.  If one is really feeling uncomfortable, however, perhaps looking for another job is a good idea.  That 'inner voice' can talk to us for a reason ;)

  2. I totally understand, I work in the same office with the owner.  In the beginning it was really hard and I felt intimidated but after a while I started treating her like my equal, we both do the same work which is accounting and things got a lot better for me.  Now work is even fun and we really enjoy each other's company.

  3. Remember...just because this person is the owner, it doesn't mean he/she is better than you.  Don't let ownership intimidate you.  Just be yourself around the owner.

Even if you do your job well, if you don't like the work, it might be showing through your attitude...no matter how subtle.  I've had many jobs that I hated, but I put on what I call my "professional mask" where I act upbeat and happy and I smile a lot.  It always works, and I always end up getting along very well with my coworkers and supervisors.
