yesterday was my first vigorous workout in my goal to lose weight by the end of the year, so far I've lost 5 lbs in a week, not very healthy but i changed a lot in eating habits, so I'm assuming that's why i lost so much. i start school 2 weeks and want to lose some more weight before school. the only thing is that when i woke up i could barely walk my calves hurt so much, but now its fine, it just feels uncomfortable if i move it strange. is it safe to work out again for an hour today?

  1. Assuming for weight loss you have coupled eating healthy with cardio exercise like running.  Hopefully eating healthy still includes items with enough protein and carbohydrates to sustain your body's normal energy consumption, as well as fruits to provide natural sugars and vegetables as well.  Stay away from a lot of trans fats, items high in cholesterol, and high fructose corn syrups.  I would also recommend to stop drinking pop and not indulging too much in alchohol in one sitting.

That being said, It is ok to workout an hour every day.  You will be sore at first, and if you are still sore by the time you work out the next day, keep your exercises at a less stressful level.

What I do to avoid muscle fatigue for aerobic exercises is - drink lots of water before, eat well, but avoid eating two-three hours before your workout.  Keep yourself hydrated throughout your workout, but avoid overindulging in water - small sips here and there is helpful.  Stretch somewhere in the beginning of your workout: If I run 3 miles, I will run a half mile, stretch, then run 2.5 miles.  It is always important to stretch after any workout, and remember to hold your stretch for at least 20 seconds.

Finally, eat something high in potassium after your workout.  Bananas are a good source - this will help minimize soreness in the muscles.

  2. I work out five days a week, sometimes six. Now that I have the time I'm working only one body part directly each day...Leg day is a day by itself and I don't work calves on leg day...don't have enough energy to work them as they need to be. I do calves and abs together. Typically though I'm doing two muscle groups a day for three days then a rest day. I too just lost six pounds this last week with just a slight change in my diet, my workout routine has been the same. If you're doing a full body routine don't work it every day...it's counter productive...you're staying in a constant state of tear down...you need a rest day to rebuild...put legs on a day by themselves and don't work them directly again for at least seven days. Remember they are worked far more then any muscle group you have just to carry you around all day. On leg day be sure to stretch after each set. Let that be your rest time between sets..Once you start school you may not have the time to work out every day...that's fine...three days a week will do. Work only one or two body parts at a time, but push them to exhaustion. pick two other the next day...just don't work the same two over again two time in a row. Keep up the workout, just allow time to rest. You won't lose anything on your day off.

  3. Your muscles are probably sore from the workout you did yesterday.  I would work out again today, but only cardio, and for a shorter time span, to avoid any serious injury.

  4. Yes, as long as you stretch before and feel as comfortable as you can working out. If you start to be in pain or feel a lot of discomfort, I suggest trying an easier work out.

  5. Listen to your body. If you're too tired or it hurts to work out, then don't. But if you feel fine, go for it.

  6. don't.

    only workout every other day.

    or alternate arms/legs days.

  7. Sounds like 1 of two things, you've either pulled a muscle or you haven't worked out in a while and your muscles are just sore. Soreness you can work through, that's normal. Try putting some bengay on your legs before & after the work out, it really helps.

Cardio is great 7 days a week, weight training I'd keep to every other day.

  8. yes its fine to work out again

your muscles are just sore because they arent used to working

    you will be fine
