I keep reading about folks losing everything, their home, savings, etc., because the treatment of cancer or another illness was so expensive it just wiped them out... and they had health insurance!

  1. As a Canadian, we do pay more taxes to have universal health care, and it is a blessing.  I have had to undergo major surgery at a time where I didn't have any health insurance (our health insurance that you can buy here is for prescriptions, and other care not recognized by the government like acupuncture)-without the government paying for it, I'd probably be crippled.

On the other hand though, I know people who have gone to the States for treatment as it was quicker when dealing with cancer.  With that aspect, you do need to recognize that the wait times can be longer.  The surgery I mentioned above?   I had to wait a year for it with an orthopedic surgeon.

  2. We are going to pay more in taxes anyway, so why shouldn't the populace get something back ? Corporations deduct every expenditure and still get tax breaks, Reagan's trickle down economics hasn't made the standard of living better for most of us. Health care would be a good place to start.

  4. Absolutely.

  5. Well, that depends.  Because what if its so expensive that the health insurance is still limited?  Id rather take my chances because insurance companies are expert scam artists.  Even if you have a legitimate claim, they may not even pay because it wasnt worth it.  Well, what's worth it you ask?  When you pay them more then they shell out.  Doesnt that make sense about the insurance business as a whole?  They take it in, but if they shell out more then they take in, then they do not have a business.
