  1. draw 2 EQUAL sized pizzas - one with 5 slices and one with 10 slices.

with the 5 slice pizza, shade in 4 of those 5 slices and with the 10 slice pizza, shade in 8 of those 10 slices.

the 2 shaded regions should be equal in area

  2. Draw two rectangles of size 4*5 on squared paper so that there are 20 little squares in them. Now divide one rectangle into 5 equal parts using a black marker and do the same with the other rectangle except divide it into 10 parts. Now colour in 4 of the parts in your first diagram using different colours to show that there are four parts. Do the same in your second diagram, but this time you need 8 colours to show that there are eight parts.

Now compare the two rectangles and notice that the coloured areas are equal!

You could also do this with two circles but it is very difficult to divide a circle into five or ten equal parts!!!

    Hope that helps!
