Over a year ago I experienced cyberbullying by one individual here at Yahoo Answers. He had asked about why people spell the shortened form of Zachary as Zach instead of Zack. He went on to add an edit that he would change people's names on public registeries and contact people to make fun of them if they spelled their name as Zach. Maybe I should have seen this guy for what he was and just not post an answer, but I did. I gave some logical and phonetic reasons for the shortened form. The bullying part of it though was that he began following, via my profile, my answers and questions that I posted here and would actually post after my answers specifically making fun of anything I would say. He wasn't posting anything to do with the asker's question. It was entirely to bully me.

I then checked his answers, not to do in kind what he had done to me, but to understand this guy. I saw that this sort of thing was a common behavior for him and that I was not his only victim.  I just stopped posting here for a while to let it blow over. I never reported it. Later when I did post again, I had discovered that this man had been banned from Yahoo Answers.

Now Yahoo Answers has several mechanisms to help victims of this sort of behavior. I think if it were to happen again, I wouldn't hesitate to report that kind of behavior.

I think it is a great idea to start a discussion group about cyber-bullying - as long as the discussion itself did not become an avenue for the bullying.  I'm not sure how you could control this and I don't think Y!A would be the right place for such a discussion.

There is a lot of bullying that takes place here, I think.
